Dafter was founded as a lumber settlement. It was given a post office named "Stevensburgh" in January 1879, with George Stevens as the first postmaster.

The name of the post office was changed to Dafter, after the township, in July 1893. It was a station on the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie Railroad.

NOTICE OF BUDGET PUBLIC HEARING

The Dafter Township Board will hold a public hearing
on the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2023 – 2024
at the Dafter Township Hall, 2926 W. 10 Mile Rd.
Dafter, MI. on March 22, 2023 at 6:30 P.M.
The Property tax millage rate proposed to be levied
to support the proposed budget will be a subject of hearing.
A copy of the budget is available for public inspection at the office
of the Clerk, 2926 W. 10 Mile Road, Dafter MI. Phone 906-440-0374

April 22, 2023, 1pm - 3pm Spring Fling Day (Earth Day)
        - Easter Egg Hunt and other fun activities
   - Light Refreshments
- Easter Bunny or Costume
- Bring your basket for a spring prize egg hunt!
June 3, 2023, 10 am - Workday on the basketball court - painting lines, etc (Date subject to 
        change with alternte date set for June 10, 2023, 10am.  We are looking for volunteers.  Please call the office at (906) 632-1579 and  leave a message.
       

June 17, 2023, 8am -12pm Dafter Township Clean-Up Day.


October 28, 2023, 4 pm - 6 pm - Fall Festival/Halloween Party

December 16, 2023, 11 am - 1 pm - Santa is coming to Dafter
